UGI - UNIONE GENITORI ITALIANI CONTRO IL TUMORE DEI BAMBINI ODV

Child’s disease is always a destabilizing event for the whole family balance, since it affects not only parents, but also brothers and sisters, grandmothers and grandfathers.
Onco-hematological Disease has even more important implications: children’s and teenagers’ daily-life is marked by therapy and hospitalization for months. During this period the whole family must be helped to face those challenges that require a great deal of courage and sacrifice.

UGI ODV - Unione Genitori Italiani contro il tumore dei bambini - was born in 1980 at Regina Margherita Children’s Hospital of Turin to support parents of children suffering from cancer and to offer children and teenagers educational and play activities during hospitalization.
For over forty years now, every day, UGI volunteers have been facing illness with children and teenagers and their parents staying next to them during hospitalization.

UGI ODV provides financial assistance to families in need, supports families coming from outside Turin providing the accommodation service in Casa UGI near the hospital and contributes to scientific research. During these forty years and over, our association has attained a higher awareness of everybody needs, from children, teenagers and their parents to the Onco-hematology Centre, which raised the issue to broaden and diversify our interventions.

UGI ODV can now rely on constant and active help of 250 trained volunteers. The association’s activities include:

FAMILY SUPPORT

Families of children and teenagers not living in Turin and under treatment in the Pediatric Onco-hematology Centre of Regina Margherita Children’s Hospital of Turin can be hosted in the twenty-two apartments in Casa UGI near the hospital.

PSYCHO-SOCIAL REINTEGRATION - UGIDUE

Was opened at the end of 2019 as a place for physical rehabilitation and psycho-social reintegration of children and teenag-ers in and off therapy. Children and teenagers off therapy and their families can participate to numerous leisure, education-al and social projects which are developed in close synergy with other realities of the Territory. UGIDUE is also a place where brothers and sisters, schoolmates and friends can exchange and share experiences, its goal being recreating the psycho-social dimension which they must get back to.
